SOUTHERN SAND
From the talcum-white sands of Bai Sao to the untouched coves of the An Thoi archipelago, these are the locations that define the island’s coastline. Below is the logistical reality of each shore
MUST-SEE
Bai Sao (Sao Beach)
The island’s original white-sand icon. Famed for its leaning palms and powdery silica sand.
📍 Seasonal Logic: Best from November to April. This is when the East Coast is protected from the winds, making the water crystal clear. Avoid from June to October when the Southwest monsoon pushes jellyfish and debris onto this shore.

Bai Khem (Khem/Kem Beach)
Home to the Marriott and New World. This is the finest sand on the island, shaped like a perfect crescent moon.
📍 Seasonal Logic: Like Bai Sao, this is a Dry Season (Nov–Apr) paradise. During the rainy season, the “Emerald” water turns murky. Chief’s Tip: While the resorts claim the sand, the water is public. Enter through the seafood shack area at the southern end for a sunrise swim—the most “Aman” moment you can have in the South.

THE RAINY SEASON SAVIOR
Ong Lang Beach
A series of golden-sand bays and rocky points. This area maintains the “Old Phu Quoc” soul—quiet, sunset-focused, and free of massive high-rises.
📍 Seasonal Logic: This is the West Coast. While the South/East (Bai Sao) gets messy from May to October, Ong Lang remains calm and swimmable. It is the best choice for a summer visit.
